If you play tennis then you know by now that serving is probably the most crucial part of the game.  You need to get the tennis serve over the net, in the service box, and hopefully win the point and continue to hold the serve.  This is why many players look to develop their tennis serve over anything else, and it is why the tennis serve is the most critiqued element of any player’s game.

However, not everyone is a professional, and even if they think that their serve is “all that”, chances are their tennis serve still needs loads of improvement if they would want to compete at a higher level.  The tennis serve is as easy to perform as everyone thinks; after all, it is just simply hitting the ball over the net.  Or is it?  If you think this, then I’m here to tell you that you are dead wrong and you might as well quit playing tennis right now or get that way of thinking out of your head and start paying attention to your tennis serve and your tennis serve technique!

Now that the rant is over, club players do make mistakes when it comes to their tennis game.  I don’t care if they’re the undefeated champions of the club, their game is not as perfect as everyone thinks. If it were, they would be on the professional circuit, not playing at the club.  In any case, the number one mistake that club players usually make with their tennis serve happens to be a toss up between using the wrong grip and the fact that they take their eyes off the ball once they come into contact with it.

You would think that these two elements were some of the basic techniques that they would have learned whenever they first began to learn about the game of tennis; however, over time, people tend to develop their own ways for doing things.  Ways which are more comfortable to them.  While this is all fine and dandy and can help to improve the level of comfort and therefore their game, it happens to hinder their tennis serve.

They may think that their technique provides them with the best tennis serve possible that they can achieve; however, they are dead wrong.  The tennis serve is crucial to how it is performed, and every step of the way, every aspect of the tennis serve has to be perfect, continuous, and consistent, in order for the tennis serve itself to be perfect.

So, the next time you’re watching a match at the club, watch to see what the club players do when it comes to their technique while serving.  You will find, that more than likely, the two items mentioned above will be evident.

Anyone who knows anything about the sport of tennis knows exactly who Roger Federer is, and if you don’t, then you need to do your research.  Roger Federer is considered to be one of the greatest players of all time when it comes to the sport of tennis.  He has the agility, the power, the consistency, the flexibility, and more.  And, at this point in time, it doesn’t seem like he is slowing down at all; he only continues to get better.

Everyone wants to be like Roger Federer and definitely wants to achieve the Roger Federer serve.  Problem is, at this point in time, no one has clearly broken down the Roger Federer serve into the crucial techniques step-by-step.  His serve has not been critiqued; well, who would want to critique it, they only want to copy it.

However, there are a few secrets that you need to know if you want to develop a Roger Federer serve, and here they are:

  1. Flexibility.  Yes, flexibility.  Have you ever watched Roger Federer when he serves the ball?  I mean really watch him.  Watch his every move, almost like he was in slow motion.  Take note of how his body bends, how his body moves, then and only then, will you get the picture.  Roger Federer is flexible in all regards and if you want to develop a Rodger Federer serve, then you too, must become flexible, bend, and move like he does.
  2. Continuous Flow.  What?  Watch how smooth Roger Federer’s serve is.  Watch how smooth his motions are.  Watch how he follows through with his motion in order to create that one of a kind Roger Federer serve.  You have to move in this manner; your motion has to be continuous and flow easily and smoothly from one point to another during the serve if you want to have the Roger Federer serve.
  3. Force/Momentum.  This is the power behind the ball.  The two other tips listed above, if performed correctly, will help you get your body behind the serve; in other words, it will help you to create the force or momentum in order to produce the power that is needed to serve a Roger Federer serve.

While these 3 tips seem to be the most import aspect of Roger Federer’s serve and the power behind it, many people tend forget about the accuracy and the consistency that Federer also creates with his serve.  The only way that one could imitate correctly the Roger Federer serve is through practice; then, when you think you’ve got it or got a grasp on it, practice some more.  The Roger Federer serve is something that takes time to develop and it can go away in an instant.
